A great night for Triathlon - MOC Awards

Malta triathlon probably experienced its best result today at the MOC Awards. A total of 5 triathletes were nominated for these awards.

These awards are very important for us athletes. They mean a recognition to all the hard work, time, money, headaches invested in our training.

The results for Malta Triathlon are as follow:

Dermot Galea - Bronze Award

Keith Galea - Bronze Award

Fabio Spiteri - Bronze Award

Danica Spiter - Bronze Award

Mark Zammit - Silver Award

The cherry on the cake was surely the GOLD AWARD for the National Team (Dermot, Danica, Mark) for our Gold medal in the team event earlier this year in Leithenstain. I am certainly very pleased with this award, for the team effort and also for my individual award.

Triathlon has made gaint steps forward in the last 3 years thanks to the big efforts by the Malta Triathlon Associations, local clubs like my own club Birkirkara St. Joseph and the newly established Triathlon section at St. Patricks, and also individual efforts by athletes to strengthen the participation in our sport which once, not so long ago, totalling a few individuals.

I would like to thank my sponsors, supporters (especially some special ones in the UK), my club and association, my parents and my girlfriend Johanna for their constant support and understanding. Special thank-you for my mum who picked up the award in my absence while I am enjoying the fresh UK weather!

2011 here we come..............

...and its a bronze award

Last Sunday at the MOC Awards Night I was awarded the Bronze Award for my performance during the 2009 season. It has been a long season with a some good races. I am very happy with this award after my silver award last year. Triathlon Malta did very well with 2 other bronze awards to Keith and Michelle Wood, and a gold award to Danica Spiteri. Certainly for Maltese triathlon it was a great year, not only for the results achieve but also to the increasing number of athletes turning up for the local races.

Since this award is awarded for performances achieved abroad I have say a special thank you to my friends Bill & Pam, and Venom Tri Club for their support to race in the UK.

MOC Awards

I have been informed that for the second year in a row I was nominated for the MOC Awards night to be held on Sunday 6th December 2009. It is a great way how to end the 2009 season. Last year I was awarded the Silver Award. My nomination came thanks to my 3rd Place in the Marizion Half Ironman Distance race in the UK (West UK championship), my 4th place in the Small Nations Championships and my 2nd Place in the Sicily - Malta Friendship Games. I'm pleased with this nomination and even more happy with the fact that also my brother Keith, Michelle and Danica have been choosen as well. This is a great result for Malta Triathlon!

Silver Award at the Malta Olympic Committee Awards Night

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday was a great day both for myself as an athlete, and also for Maltese Triathlon. I was awarded the Silver Award for my 2008 results at the Malta Olympic Committee Awards Night. I am very honoured to receive this award since it pays back for the tough season I had especially the first 3 months recovering from pnueomonia. It wasn't easy to get back in shape for Ironman UK and the other end of seasons races but things went the right way, and persistance paid off. This is of great motivation for me to keep trying harder in 2009 and to get better results, aim higher and achieve what is the ultimate target for me, be on the start line at the World Ironman Championships in Hawaii. I have sent out a two year plan starting off from next year and I am doing my best to succeed.

To top up a great night my brother Keith was awarded the Gold Award. This proves to be a big milestone for Maltese Triathlon as this is the best results achieved so far by Maltese Triathletes in these Awards.

I would like to thank my parents, my girlfriend Johanna, my sponsors, my club B'Kara St. Joseph, my UK friends Bill & Pam, and MTA for their help during the 2008 season. You need a strong team to produce a strong performance.

Duathlon UK win on The Hinckley Times

The Hinckley Times (A local UK newspaper) issued an article (13th November) about the Market Bosworth Duathlon I won in October. As you can see from the article above there was also a photo of the start. You can see me in the Blue Ironman cap on the left. Thanks to Bill & Pam for getting me this article!

Another important updated is my selection together with my brother Keith for the Malta Olympic Committee Awards which are going to be held on the 7th December. This is a big achievement for us to be selected amongst all the athletes in Malta, and it is also a big achievement for Triathlon in Malta to have two athletes in the run-up for an award. Next Sunday we shall know the colour of our award - Bronze, Silver or Gold.
